Just checking in. I have been lucky since Typhoon Yutu. But I have had some challenges with housing. Nothing seemed to fit. Not that I was homeless, as you have seen, I have had great housing! Well, surprise! I am moving again. I found a nice Korean Resort. I like it because everything is new. Great security and all concrete with typhoon shutters. Nice pool with housekeeping, they have a nice restaurant and gym. I am 64 turning 65 and my dream of bringing ragdolls to Saipan is extinguished.
I hope you remember my hopes and dreams and remember this place. Claude and Steele were pioneers! Claude is doing well with his new owners.
Here is the new place. It is good, because it is typhoon proof and has a generator. Funny what becomes important.

It is a good deal, because it used to be for tourists and quite expensive, but with COVID, I was able to lease for 1 year for 850 US a month, includes power and internet. Quite close to work and a two minute walk to the lagoon. Very fancy and modern. No pets and no smoking. Sucks, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do.
My plan is to tone down the modern with my Bali furniture.
Ha Ha! I have been watching house hunters international on the home and garden tv. I think I have a good deal for my old age.
All of the reviews are in Korean except the one American who was kinda creeped out about not flushing paper. I flush paper, but you might need a plunger

I always thought the Litter-Robot might be nice but not worth the crazy price. I was so wrong!! I have a lot of health problems and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get down in the floor and scoop the litter box several times a day. I saw Litter-Robot was having a Black Friday sale for $50 off and found a discount code that took off another $25. My husband ordered the bundle. It arrived last Sunday.
I was worried Jaxon would be scared of it and it would be hard for him to switch since he was using the pine pellets. I set it up Sunday night and put his old box beside it. I couldn’t keep him out of it when I was setting it up. I am using Arm and Hammer Slide litter in it. Once it was ready I let him explore on his own. He was fascinated when it would rotate to clean.
The next morning I checked both boxes. He had not been in his old box at all since the Litter-Robot was set up! That was it, no adjustment problems at all. He has used it one full week now. The bag was full and had to be changed out Thursday night. His box has stayed nice and clean, he loves it.
One of my favorite things, other than the obvious benefit of no scooping and it always being clean for him, is the app that works with it. It tells me each time he uses the box and notifies me if there is a problem, such as the bag being full.
If you are on the fence or not sure it is worth it I highly recommend it! I love mine. Now is a good time with the current discounts available too.

Naughty Ava |

Now that Ava is more comfortable roaming the house, she's had a little excitement once in a while. She's found the toilet paper to be fun, seeing just how much she can unroll at one time. I've had to relocate a few plants to higher locations. They're non-toxic for pets, but didn't want them chewed up anyway.
But when she came up with dark smudges on one of her legs and hind quarters, I was puzzled. I finally found the source - my fireplace! She managed to open the screens just enough to get in there. I don't use the fireplace too often - maybe 5-6 times in winter - and while the ashes are always cleaned out, there's clearly soot remaining on the surfaces. I was able to clean her up, however, with wet paper towels and some dawn liquid soap. It was not a pleasant experience for either of us. I'm always afraid of hurting her when she struggles to get free from my grasp but I made sure she was rinsed well. Was only able to dry her a bit with more paper towels as the hair dryer freaked her out too much.
I'm just glad I'm home with her most of the time during these exciting (for her) escapades. And hoping that with maturity will come more tame behaviors - like playing with the toys meant for her, gazing out the windows, or lazing on my lap - not the laptop, my lap (she does both!).

Feral Advice Needed |

As you know I am still taking care of the Wild Bunch. Winter is nearly here and I am looking for feeding advice.
I provide a shelter with heated beds and a feeding station with heated water and food bowls (Heaven forbid that the Condo Association ever discovers any of this). They are fed dry food 24/7 but I need suggestions on how much canned food they need to get them through a Michigan winter. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Hi all. I haven't been active in a while but used to post on the old forum. Unfortunately I have sad news.
Winston died last Tuesday, peacefully in my lap at home, after being diagnosed with aggressive metastatic pancreatic cancer four days before (that previous Friday) and declining shockingly fast. I am beyond heartbroken-- as much as I love his brother and littermate, Oliver, Winston was always my heart. For every day over the last almost 12 years (their adoptiversary is December 2), he was my couch snuggle buddy and would follow me from room to room and now he's gone and I am completely adrift. I hadn't planned on having an emotional support cat, but now that he's gone I'm realizing that that's who he was. His absence is excruciating--especially now during the pandemic where I'm teleworking (which is its own agony since every day since March Winston would sit on my lap between my hips and my laptop when I worked on the couch) and stuck at home all the time surrounded by the thousands of memories of Winston, and it's getting too cold to see friends outside (I live alone and the friend I'm podded with lives about half an hour away--thanks to how everything is so spread out in DC--so we only see each other on weekends).
Meanwhile Oliver is alternating between being extremely clingy--which I actually love--and sniffing at his brother's favorite spots. He's been completely avoiding the second bedroom, which is where he and Winston would cuddle together in their cat beds or their favorite chairs. I don't know how to help him...
I would post photos but not sure how to do it on this forum, and right now looking at photos of Winston just makes me cry anyway.
Thank you for listening, and I'm sorry about how long it's been.

Two New Kittiens? |

Hello, I am new here but have been lurking for a while.
My DH and I have a 3-1/2 yr. old female Ragamuffin and are getting a new female Ragdoll Kitten (Cinnamon Bicolor) around Thanksgiving (she will be 14 wks. old). Am I crazy to consider another kitten (a male) a seal point mink? That will make 3 cats!! We will be crazy cat people. The other kitten will be 12 weeks (different breeder) when he is able to come home. I have already made a deposit on the female but still deliberating on the male.
My DH and I are both retired and stay home mostly so we would be with the cats most of the time.
Thoughts?
