Fosco: In Memoriam - Tikismom - 11-19-2019

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I post this thread today, and at the behest of our dear Colleen, to let you all know of her profound loss. I know that you will understand that in her grief she doesn't have the strength to let you know herself right now.
Tragically, Fosco passed away this morning after an illness that's been plaguing him for several months; the suspected cause was FIP. (Update: an autopsy by her vet has confirmed that it was wet FIP). Colleen did everything humanly possible to save him and explored all options including a feeding tube at the end. We were ever so hopeful that he was turning around but it sadly was not meant to be.
We have been so very fortunate to have known him, all the way in South Africa, through Colleen's lovely stories of her kitties and her wonderful photography. He was a big, beautiful and loving cat and such a sweet character. Colleen asked me to share some of those memories with you so they will follow.
RIP Fozzy and know that we all miss you dearly. Colleen, my dear friend, you and your family are in my thoughts and I hope that the overwhelming grief you're feeling will pass quickly and be replaced by the wonderful memories that you have in almost 6 years that you were blessed with his majestic presence, beauty and grace.

Colleen I am so sorry for your loss. Fosco was a stunning boy. I am praying for you and your family.

Beyond sad.

FIP is terrible and has been intractable. Since it is not conclusively diagnosable in life, it means one must proceed largely on the assumption it is not FIP and give the cat the best chance at recovery. Folks should consider research projects like Sock FIP that are seeking better tools.

My heart goes out to you. Your photos of Fosco never failed to brighten my day.

Having been privy to the battle that she waged to save him, I know with certainty that Colleen explored every possible avenue available to save him and never waivered in her resolve to do so. She operated under the premise that it was anything but FIP.
I dearly hope that a cure and/or vaccine will be developed for this tragic disease.

RE: Fosco: In Memoriam - JanH - 11-19-2019

Because of the nature of FIP, a vaccine is unlikely. However, supporting reputable researchers pursuing any approach should be supported.

Colleen, I am so so sorry for your loss.  Fosco was such a gorgeous boy.  He and my Beau were both the blue bicolors.  I lost Beau suddenly and we never really knew why.  It's so tough when you lose one - it's like losing a member of the family.   You and yours will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I know personally the heartbreak of FIP. My heart breaks for her and her family. I can understand her not being able to handle the forum and our reactions.
I am sorry that anyone has to suffer such a loss.
Progress is being made but not soon enough. I will when I can make a donation to the Bria Fund in Fosco's name.

Thank you Rebecca and all of you who expressed condolences. I know that Colleen will be moved by your support when she finds the strength to check in with us.
She and her family laid him to rest in her garden today.
