RE: My new 'baby'... - Ragstimes1 - 02-23-2022

I went over to the Rite Aid and was on my way out with a small cart.  When I stepped off the curb, I think I hit an icy spot and went down on my knees behind the cart.  A good-hearted lady came out and helped me up.  I made it to the car quickly and left  Boy, was I embarassed.  Now I try to find WaWa's that have no curb to step up on.  I never used to take a tumble before.   I've wondered about using a cane.  Better that than falling.  The cats love to get around my feet when I'm trying to get through the house.

Believe it or not, it is 70 today and should be 35 tomorrow  We're supposed to have rain, lots of other folks are getting a ton of snow.  Man, I just want to go to work in my yard.Went to the WaWa with no coat on.  Strange weather.....

The only qualm I had about getting the girls, who are so young, is that I worried that they'd outlive me.  My brother and I have had many discussions about them being indoor vs outdoor cats.  He has a ton of cats on the farm, all vaccinated, spayed and living outside.  These girls wouldn't be happy with that arrangement.

I worry about exactly the same thing - I have to outlive Fluffy - because Fluffy outliving me is simply unacceptable. I've had 2 emergency hospitalisations in the past 12 months - each for about 24 hours - because I told them: I need to get home to my cat... The first time I left was against medical advice and the second time I left I convinced the doctor to discharge me. I only stay long enough to get the CT scans and blood-work done - then follow-up with my GP and specialist. I don't understand how anyone can sleep in hospital - I'm so much happier at home in my own bed with my beautiful ball of Fluff...

I have written emergency care instructions for Fluffy - but they go something like this: Fluff prefers to drink water from his Petkit fountain which I take apart and clean 2 x weekly (then I list full instructions for cleaning the pet fountain and changing both filters). He may drink from his white porcelain water bowl, but it must be washed & rinsed thoroughly every single day before replacing it with fresh water.

I'm still editing it and trying to make it more human-friendly!!! Big Grin

Pam, I had to chuckle at your written instructions. Coco has learned that she will get further getting on the bed and purring than scratching at the mattress. My brother says they have me trained about feeding them. Think so???

It was up to 70 degrees here during the day and is now down at 36 degrees. We're only supposed to have rain but a lot of NJ is going to get heavy snow. I have an order coming tomorrow from Whole Foods so I hope we only have the light rain they are talking about.

So, should I get a cane??

Sue - I'm trying to edit it from a manual to a single A4 page that I can laminate - you can imagine how that's going Big Grin

Fluff stands on my hip and 'makes biscuits' on my bare arm to wake me in the mornings - purring and head-butting me ever so affectionately...we've come a long way from the kitten days of biting Mummy's toes...

And you know how some people train their dogs to: Speak!  If I don't get up Fluff puts one paw on my mouth and gives me the cat command for: Speak!!! Mummy Speak!!!  It's hilarious... Big Grin he really is such a sweetheart... Heart

It's almost midnight here and Fluff has the zoomies so I must go and attend to His Master's Voice (HMV)

Yes - get a cane!!! I'll try to find the model I have online and post it's specifications...

I'd love for you to post the specs.  We're getting frozen rain right now and I just lugged the groceries in from the front steps.  Now to unbag them........................  The girls are here wanting more food, which they just got.

RE: My new 'baby'... - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 02-24-2022

I found the exact model here:

https://www.disabilityshop.com.au/walking-stick-swan-neck-560/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI773arPaY9gIVKddMAh1xWwi3EAQYASABEgL_APD_BwE

It's made of aluminium so it's really lightweight but super strong. It has a swan neck and a soft foam handle which is non-slip, really comfortable and very kind to arthritic fingers. The foam handle also acts like a 'shock absorber' preventing a lot of the impact traveling up my arm to my shoulder. It's height adjustable so I was able to customize it to get the perfect fit for for my height. Apparently there are also self-defense classes for seniors that use the walking stick to deflect an attack. Knowing me I'd be the one that ends up on the news bopping a thief over the head with it... I've always liked those ladies in the news!!! Big Grin This one is using her handbag:

Fluff and I have been up since 5.30am and there's been much excitement because he caught a frog in his enclosure. I'm devastated for the frog but so happy for him...

This is Australian website.  Will they deliver here?  Rite Aid also has a ton of canes too.

I found what seems to be an identical cane at Rite Aid on google but I can't use the Rite Aid website...

RE: My new 'baby'... - Ragstimes1 - 02-25-2022

There is a Rite Aid about 5 minutes from me and I'll try there first.  If not, I'll see if I can use the website.  Thanks for the work.

I've also been looking at Amazon and am sort of looking at the canes with the "quad" feet, trying to decide whether to get the small one (which most of the users say it is not steady) or the larger quad cane.  How do you do with the single tip cane?  I'm sort of leaning towards the quad feet.

I'm a bit clumsy and I was afraid I would trip over the one with the quad feet... Blush

Idea why not get both and see which one works best for you? P x
