Traveling with my kitten - NatsFan78 - 11-27-2019 We are traveling for Thanksgiving to visit family. We will be driving about four hours to see my dad then another hour to see my mom. We are staying with her a couple of nights before coming back home. When we adopted Jax he had a four and a half hour ride home and he did great as long as I held him on my chest. My mom has an indoor cat at her house. She is skittish and usually hides from everyone except my mom and niece. Any advice or tips to make things easier on Jaxon? RE: Traveling with my kitten - Khyeranggi - 11-29-2019 My cats came to me as kittens in cargo from Australia through Guam and did quite well. They never traveled by car outside of a carrier. My opinion is, keep them in a safe place, which is not your lap or chest and they will do well. Give them time and small space in your destination place and do not expect them to do well. They are cats and need time to adapt. RE: Traveling with my kitten - NatsFan78 - 11-29-2019 Jaxon was such a good boy yesterday! He stayed in his carrier the entire time. He was the only animal at Dad’s and after a few minutes of exploring he was playing and happy. I am pretty sure my dad enjoyed seeing him more than seeing me lol. Can’t say I blame him. When we got to Mom’s yesterday evening the power was out from high winds. After being out about 21 hours it finally came back on after we were in bed. Despite it being very cold from having no heat and only a tiny bit of light from an oil lamp Jax did so great! After he ate and used the litter box he snuggled under the blanket with me. My mom has a male cat but he is pretty skittish. He has not been around another cat in years, not since he was a kitten. They have been playing and are getting along great! RE: Traveling with my kitten - Smudge's Mom - 11-29-2019 What a wonderful trip (other than the dark and the cold). As long as you only take the cats into account, it sounds like it was purrfect. |
