Thank Goodness for..... - Ragstimes1 - 03-29-2020

Whole Foods!  I've been shopping on Amazon and just keep periodically trying for a delivery window and they do actually open them.  That's how I've gotten some things I really needed plus lots of fresh veggies and fruit.  I found a website (courtesy of my brother) that is farm box direct and they will send you fruit, veggies or a combo of both on the frequency you desire.  Also have gotten great fish/chicken from wild planet and dried things from mother earth and yesterday my brother introduced me to Utzsnacks.com.  Now, that was a mistake - LOL.  I have pumpernickel pretzels coming to me.  I don't know if you know it but you can freeze eggs and milk.  The eggs get frozen in a muffin tin and you can then bag them.  I don't know if they work for just cooking and eating but will work for baking.  You have to take some of the milk out of the container because it expands when it freezes.

Been doing litter boxes today.  I've got to get an appointment for Jamie tomorrow with a tech for a depo shot.  I wish they'd done it last Tuesday when we were there but he's starting to scratch his face and has opened up just a small area.  I talked to his vet last night who said if he scratches a lot today he'll try to get a tech to go in and meet me to give him a shot.  He'll make it through until Monday.

Did the wash today and have a lot of bags to empty from Whole Foods.  They don't put much in each bag.  Rose could really use the bags but I don't want to take them over and go into the lobby to get them to deliver them.  We'll see.  Today almost seems like a normal day with the chores to do, etc.  Jamie is exploring the porch and he just loves that.  I finally got a box that is big enough to hold the cut down boxes so I've got to do that today too.

If you haven't tried the Whole Foods through Amazon, give it a try.  You just have to keep trying until you get some delivery windows to pick from.  I like it better than going through my local market - nicer produce.  I've been supplementing Rose's tea, etc. through Amazon.  As long as they keep delivering, we'll be ok.

Paper and cardboard are reported to be safe surfaces in about one day after contamination.

Thanks for the tips. My mom is in Vermont and getting pretty nervous especially with the influx from NYC. She's spraying her mail with Lysol and wiping her groceries on the doorstep with disinfectant. Her local grocery store and most here in Calgary are offering special senior only hours at the beginning of the day. Presumably they will be able to get toilet paper. It's been unbelievable here with the hoarding...

W are in pretty good shape here..at least the small, independent places...local fruit and veggie markets, local butchers, etc. If you go early you can get a bit of this and a bit of that. Basically how I shop anyway. Our small Aldi's has had most stuff except toilet paper so we have not had a lot of problems yet.

We are not allowed to shop without a mask and only 10 folks allowed in the store at one time. We are well stocked for now. No flights in or out, but cargo comes in, so we have plenty toilet paper!

We also have limited hours to shop. 7:00 to 1:00. Total curfew after 7:00 pm. Folks have been arrested. I think our government is doing well in figuring it out...

We arn't allowed to leave the retirement village so they have been faxing our orders thru to local supermarket who just can't cope. So on friday village management arranged for a truck load of food from the wholesalers and have set up a mini supermarket in the local community centre/cafe. It will open today only 1 person allowed in at a time. Be interesting to see how this goes. They also take orders for milk and bread which they deliver daily. I have to praise them they are implementing so many different ways of helping us and the village staff are now working 7 days a week to make sure every one is fed prescriptions are picked up ect. I finally got my order they faxed thru on Monday yesterday 6 days later but so grateful I got it. Finally fresh and frozen vegetables. Also got a delivery of fresh meat yea. For me they will fax my order to supermarket as my dietry requirements are bit different so won't be stocking what I eat.

Helen,
That must be a challenge to have dietary needs.  It sounds like your village is doing everything they can including feeding folks.  Around here it seems like delivery windows are taken over a week out and I've had windows 2x but it has closed out before I was done.  I had some veggies I cooked today to make sure they get used.  Found that I liked the romaine salad kits in a bag a lot better than organic romaine (which I think is bitter).  I should get myself making some masks as I have a sewing machine upstairs.  Haven't gotten up there for that yet.  There was even a pattern with directions in today's paper.  I need to cancel the weekend delivery, which is all I get.  No sense cutting out coupons if you can't go somewhere to use them.

I know Jamie is most grateful that he has his own stash of goodies.  Ordered him Mack/Jack today.  He likes that too.

Cargo keeps coming on ships, but very difficult. The Korean store just got hand sanitizer so that is good. In my village we have 3 stores for food. 2 have been shut down by the government for not following social distancing protocol. Living here is a blessing as the entire Pacific is like a big moat. That being said, we have only tested less than 30 people and 2 confirmed deaths. Both elderly, 77 and 81 with underlying condition, so...
7:00 pm curfew, and so far, folks are following. Only one arrest. Some drunk guy.

These make me count my blessings as I am still working and so far the stock in the grocery stores have been good. I try to go when I think it won't be busy and only one of us. The pet food stores have been awesome with curbside service. Most grocery stores here have online ordering but the windows for pickup don't work for me. Our lifestyle hasn't changed much - work, come home, walk dog and chill then bed lol
I am still doing a hour Saturdays at a private off leash dog park with our trainer and some of her clients. We practice physical distancing. Lots of room and only one pet guardian approaches the dogs if they are too rough lol I also took Skye to a day camp at the same place this week. They have reduced the price, even though money is tight it was well worth it for a quiet dog for a few days. Again arranged drop off and pick up times, social distancing with drop off and pick up.
