This explains a lot of things - Ragstimes1 - 05-12-2020

Well, the last time Jamie and I were at the vet, the other vet gave him  a shot of depo.  We've been monitoring the sugar after the depo shots.  I didn't know the doctor was going to give it and this time his sugar went sky high.  We retested him this week and as soon as the insulin/needles get here, he will be going on insulin, just like mom.  It explains why he gets the wobbles, etc.  Right now you can't go into the vet's office but this will be one time that Jamie and I will be allowed in, so that they can teach me how to give him the insulin.  Not looking forward to it.  The vet looked at the diabetic foods and then I pointed out the chicken and the salmon, which Jamie is allergic to.  For now, he's going to stay on his regular food plus the insulin.  He's also going on vetasyl, which is fiber, to help get the calcium out of his system.  Easy fix.  Just sprinkle it on his wet food.  It was here really quick too.

Jamie is sitting on the porch enjoying just looking around.  He left me a hairball so I have to decide whether to clean it up wet or just scrape it after it dries.  It's easier to just scrape it.

So glad you are finally getting some answers. I have to give Pooka a shot of Adequan once a week and it is really easy. It is SubQ right below the neck in the loose skin. I try to give it while she is napping and very often she sleeps through it. Occasionally, I miss the mark and it must hurt her a bit because she gives me a dirty look and only forgives me if I offer her a Temptation. I am sure you will get the knack of it very quickly.
As far as the hairball goes, if it is a really good one, consider having it bronzed.

It's been a long road for you Sue, trying to get answers about Jamie, really happy that finally there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel for you both. xo
