Need some advice please. - Codysmom - 10-10-2020 The breeder I got Fozzy and Katy from contacted me today and said he had a beautiful boy he would like to offer me, would I be interested in taking him? I haven't yet committed to anything as I had not planned on getting another cat because I'm still so absolutely devastated about losing my Fozzy and Mittens. My question is this: Would getting another kitten potentially bring out the corona virus in Katy or Cody and cause them to develop the FIP Fozzy passed from? This is the biggest concern I have, on the other hand getting a kitten might help me get over my grief at losing my other two. But I'm not prepared to put Cody and Katy at any risk. If anyone has some advice regarding this I would really appreciate it. Thank you. RE: Need some advice please. - JanH - 10-10-2020 That scenario is remote enough based on our understanding of FIP that I would not let it be much of a factor. Thank you so much Jan, appreciate your input. Will have a good think about what I should do. RE: Need some advice please. - MissViv - 10-31-2020 I'm getting a ragdoll kitten close to Thanksgiving and I already have a 3 yr. old Ragamuffin cat and also considered the Corona Virus but I think it is rare that a virus would be transmitted. There are really very few cases of cats having Covid-19. RE: Need some advice please. - admin - 10-31-2020 Congratulations and welcome to the forum! RE: Need some advice please. - Smudge's Mom - 10-31-2020 From what I understand of Feline Corona, it is a very, very common virus that nearly all cats (breeder babies, backyard babies, pound kitties, etc.) are exposed to. In most cases the most it does is present as a common cold virus would in humans. In a few rare cases it actually mutates to the FIP form of the virus and is no longer just plain old Feline Corona. I don't believe there is any way of predicting which cats are susceptible to mutating although I probably wouldn't want to adopt a full sibling (even from a different litter) of one I had lost to FIP. |
