When do Ragdolls reach maturity? - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 10-16-2020

Fluff will be three years old next month and I've read different views about Ragdolls reaching maturity.

Some people say it's 3 years while others say it's 4 years. Obviously Fluff will continue to "mature" his whole life. When I think about my late Jack Russell Terrier "Eddie" he reached what I would call his "prime" between 4-5 years. Oh he was magnificent!!! All rippling muscles, a broad chest, glossy coat and alert intelligent eyes. He had quite a few 4 legged lady friends at the dog park too...

But back to Fluff - will he magically transform from Mummy's baby boy to Mummy's big boy when he turns 3? Big Grin

If I remember correctly, Smudge attained his full height and length at about 24 months, but continued to pack on muscle weight for another year. I would say he was in his prime from about 3 years until 10 when his heart problem kicked in.
He never really stopped being momma's baby (always looking for pets, snuggle time and conversation) but was certainly a very mature "King of the Jungle" with the other cats from about 9 months old. Even when his kidneys started to fail at about the age of 14 and he lost muscle, he never lost their respect.

Tiki reached his full height and length at about 3 but put on muscle and bulk for about another year. He topped out at 21 pounds and at 10 still seems to be in his prime. His fur also continued to become fuller until 4.

I can echo what has already been said above. I experience much the same with all my 3 Raggies.

Here's a link for you to look through the photos of their growth, I think keeping the above in mind you'll notice it is their muscle bulk and definitely the hair (mane) that really grows more after about 3 years up.

Thanks so much for these replies Heart

I've definitely noticed he has a fuller coat lately. It's Spring here and I'm assuming he's shedding some of his Winter coat? I've never had too much of a problem grooming him (even though I'm somewhat allergic). But as the weather warmed up recently there was a week or two when the amount of hair I was grooming out of his hair was beyond anything I had ever experienced with him!!!

Smudge was a huge shedder of beautiful soft fluff balls. I would save as much as I could and launder it in a mesh bag to get rid of the cat scent. When it was dry, I would place it in one of those metal suet feeders and hang it in the backyard in the early spring. The birds would use it to make and line their nests. I think the squirrels would steal some of it also.
