Naughty Ava - Avasmom - 11-18-2020 Now that Ava is more comfortable roaming the house, she's had a little excitement once in a while. She's found the toilet paper to be fun, seeing just how much she can unroll at one time. I've had to relocate a few plants to higher locations. They're non-toxic for pets, but didn't want them chewed up anyway. But when she came up with dark smudges on one of her legs and hind quarters, I was puzzled. I finally found the source - my fireplace! She managed to open the screens just enough to get in there. I don't use the fireplace too often - maybe 5-6 times in winter - and while the ashes are always cleaned out, there's clearly soot remaining on the surfaces. I was able to clean her up, however, with wet paper towels and some dawn liquid soap. It was not a pleasant experience for either of us. I'm always afraid of hurting her when she struggles to get free from my grasp but I made sure she was rinsed well. Was only able to dry her a bit with more paper towels as the hair dryer freaked her out too much. I'm just glad I'm home with her most of the time during these exciting (for her) escapades. And hoping that with maturity will come more tame behaviors - like playing with the toys meant for her, gazing out the windows, or lazing on my lap - not the laptop, my lap (she does both!). RE: Naughty Ava - Codysmom - 11-19-2020 So glad you're around to take care of little Ava. She sounds such a little sweetie-pie and full of fun too. I remember when Mittens, the beautiful rescue girl I had was a kitten, she loved unrolling the toilet paper too and Cody still loves toilet paper, not to unroll it but he bites and scratches it leaving me to appreciate his 'artwork'. Hopefully you'll be able to get some pics of her soon, we would love to see her growing up. How old is she now? RE: Naughty Ava - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 11-19-2020 aawww - she sounds so cute and confident now!!! I would love to see some photos of her as she grows up... Fluff was exactly the same with toilet paper (loved it!!!) and clean-ups (hated it!!!). He would bite the paper in the printer and chew on the edges of my diary. He would climb the bed and leave little pin holes in my favourite sheets (still does sometimes!!!). He has a box full of toys, but still likes to knock my pens over and play with them... RE: Naughty Ava - Smudge's Mom - 11-19-2020 She sounds totally adorable...but don't get your hopes up. At 12, Paddy is my IT guy...spending most of his day taking care of my keyboard. Pooka, at nearly 19, has decided that retirement is not her thing and she would much rather be my personal assistant, spending a good deal of her waking hours head butting my touch screen to make sure all is working correctly. It appears that you are handling her mischief well and with great competence. However, rest assured, that when push comes to shove, Ava is the boss. Enjoy and post pictures. RE: Naughty Ava - Avasmom - 11-20-2020 Ooooh, Ava also chewed on a corner of the cover of a book I was reading - not happy about that one, either. While I read a lot on my tablet, I like to revert back to printed books from time to time. I usually have one sitting on a book stand on my kitchen table and it's just one of my quirks that books are taken care of. It pains me when I see someone turning down corners to mark their place, so a chewed corner is on another level. But she's so cute, it hard to get too mad at her. We also have "issues" at bedtime. I have to keep my beautiful comforter folded over the foot board of the bed for now as she was using that to climb up. She beats me into the bed every time, and it's a struggle (play time for her, really) to pull the covers down so I can into bed and pull the covers back up without covering her up in the process. I probably move her off the bed 3-4 times before I get settled but she's quick and back up there in no time. I'll try for some more pictures soon, but their change in appearance is so slow. Although I know I'll appreciate looking back as she continues to grow. She's just about 4 1/2 months now - born on July 1st. And just a quick question - how often do you trim their nails? I won't be doing this myself, but rather taking her to a groomer I used for my dogs for many years. RE: Naughty Ava - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 11-20-2020 I only get Fluffy's claws trimmed once a year when he has his annual health check and shots. I'm guessing this is probably a lot less than other people do. I've tried doing them myself, but his paws are so pale and even with glasses on I can't see clearly. RE: Naughty Ava - Smudge's Mom - 11-20-2020 I do them myself, but since my eyes are not what they were, I merely "tip" them weekly. On the occasions that they have been done professionally, either by the vet tech or a groomer, I think they last about a month. |
