Immunization - Smudge's Mom - 01-16-2021 Stan and I just had our first Covid-19 vaccine this afternoon. So far no side effects other than a strange craving for ginger snap cookies and Milky Way bars. RE: Immunization - JanH - 01-16-2021 Great for you! RE: Immunization - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 01-16-2021 that's great news!!! RE: Immunization - Smudge's Mom - 02-07-2021 We had our second Covid shot yesterday. This time the injection site is very sore and I am told that that will dissipate within 24-48 hours. Other than that, I am feeling no side effects. RE: Immunization - JanH - 02-07-2021 They say that is a sign that the shot is producing the antibodies as intended! RE: Immunization - Smudge's Mom - 02-07-2021 Exactly. The body recognizes the second dose as an invader. Unfortunately, it has decided to punch it to death. Really, really sore this evening. Gain. ; ) RE: Immunization - Smudge's Mom - 02-08-2021 They say most side effects last about 24-36 hours and when I woke up this morning the arm was back to normal. If this stuff works, in 10-14 days, Stan and I should be immune to, at least, the original Covid. Unfortunately, they do not yet know for how long the vaccine provides protection...6 months, a year, a lifetime????? At this point, I pretty much feel like a lab rat. RE: Immunization - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 02-08-2021 There was someone here in Australia who got Covid twice. He didn't develop enough antibodies to prevent him getting it a second time. I don't want to be a harbinger of doom - but I am advising my 84 year old Mum not to think she's 'bullet-proof' just because she's had the vaccine. I will still be wearing a mask every time I leave the house, practicing social distancing and good hand hygiene for the foreseeable future. The virus is evolving and mutating somewhat similarly to the flu virus. That's why we get a new flu vaccine every year in flu season, because the flu virus has mutated. But Covid is distinctly different from the flu - because it's evolving and mutating 365 days a year. We have seen in 2020 that there was no 'season' for Covid and that's what scares me. |
