Litter problem - HelenMac - 09-26-2021 I opened the usual bag of litter to tip in the container last night was the same one I always buy or so I thought but as I tipped it in thought this is different its way darker in color but also had big white lumps in it.. So I took photos of it before sifting out the lumps and filling the 1 liter jug for tipping in the litter robot. I also emailed the company asking what the white lumps are and why was it different in color. Sat down to watch tv which was slowly got harder and harder to see within 1/2 and hour my eyes had swelled almost completely shut which is an allergic reaction. Called hubby who got me a cold flannel to put on my eyes and he said what have you touched told him only thing is I tipped a new bag of litter into the bucket i said its the one I always buy but he quickly went and checked the bag came back and said there is a sticker on it saying new improved scent for odor control ( lavender ) great I'm allergic to lavender. Quickly took my antihistamines. Can't believe they just send it out without letting me know its changed especially as its a standing order which states carbon and baking soda. For now I have to keep the cats off my lap can't let them sleep with me and I can't pat them cause every time I do I swell up worse eyes still half shut so presume must get on their fur when using the robot.. Quickly went on line to find something locally but its all out of stock. Yikes. Will be ringing all the stores tomorrow to see if anyone has anything else available that hubby can pick up. RE: Litter problem - NatsFan78 - 09-26-2021 Oh my goodness Helen I am so sorry! I hope you heal quickly. I would try calling or emailing the company you received it from. Depending on the company they might offer a refund or even overnight a new litter. If it was Chewy I feel certain they would help. Their customer service is excellent. I hope you can get something quickly so you can snuggle with the babies. Sending hugs. RE: Litter problem - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 09-26-2021 Oh Helen - how awful for you!!! How are your eyes now? I get allergies with my eyes too and I use antihistamine tablets and antihistamine drops. Sometimes they just don't work and then I have to take cortisone. Flushing my eyes with artificial tears sometimes helps... Poor babies - they won't understand why you're pushing them away at the moment... What a dreadful predicament for all of you!!! Hoping it gets resolved soon... (((hugs))) Pam xox RE: Litter problem - HelenMac - 09-26-2021 (09-26-2021, 08:50 PM)MUM_of_FLUFFY Wrote: Oh Helen - how awful for you!!! How are your eyes now? Thanks Pam couldn't handle the boys crying outside the bedroom door last night so gave in and let them in at 2am Shadow was straight down to my feet and Zimba in his house.. Eyes still very swollen but not as bad as before. We keeping the bathroom door pulled too but not clicked shut so the boys can push open when need to go and leaving the extractor fan going and after they been I wipe them down with a damp cloth they not impressed but if it means we can have cuddles they will have to put up with it. Fingers crossed will help. I'm allowed to take my antihistamines twice a day just makes me a bit sleepy so hate doing that but for now that's what I'm doing as well as my drops and washing my eyes. I spoke to the company at 8am and they will send me a different bag of kitty fresh clumping with carbon as a replacement due to the white lumps which they think is the baking soda gone hard but still hasn't been processed. Luckily I did order a bag of litter on line yesterday from somewhere else which was picked up last night but with lockdown couriers are so busy and we are rural so hopefully get before the end of the week. Have rung the pet shops down here but they don't have anything awaiting delivery as litter shelves are pretty empty apart from crystals or non clumping which isn't suitable for litter robot. I wouldn't be able to handle Fluffy crying either - so I'm not surprised you let them in at 2am Please keep us updated - praying things get better for you and your babies very soon... Pam xox RE: Litter problem - Codysmom - 09-27-2021 Oh no! How awful for you Helen! I'm so sorry this happened to you, I hope you're feeling better now, it sounds so painful. Poor boys must have been so confused when you had to keep them locked out of your room. Thinking of you and hoping everything will soon be back to normal again. xo RE: Litter problem - Smudge's Mom - 09-27-2021 Are you any better yet??? What an experience for you. Hope the kitties aren't too upset. I think worrying about them is probably as bad as the eye issue. RE: Litter problem - HelenMac - 09-27-2021 I suddenly remembered we had a litterbox at mum's in her garage for when we visit so hubby went and picked it up and we emptied the robot cleaned it and tipped that litter in there. Hasn't been used as now I don't walk with the boys they don't visit nana anymore. Hopefully that will tide us over till the new litter arrives. Poor little Zimba started sneezing so that lavender stuff was obviously bothering him. Hopefully now my eyes will settle they still very swollen unfortunately. Don't know why they put lavender in cat litter seems crazy so many people and I imagine cats are allergic to it. There is a pet store in Cambridge that is open today so we are going down there shortly to see if have anymore luck there. RE: Litter problem - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 09-27-2021 I tried to find a reputable source of information about lavender and cats. This is from the ASPCA: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/lavender I have used lavender scented litter once in the past because they were sold out of my regular litter. I will not be repeating that mistake. I remember thinking how terrible it smelled... Thinking of you and hoping you and the babies are on the mend... RE: Litter problem - HelenMac - 09-27-2021 Well our trip to Cambridge was a waste of time and petrol pet shop had nothing apart from crystals lavender scented litter and non clumping.. So then we went to the local diy garden store but all they had was the same.. On a plus side got the 3 plants I've been waiting to come in so got them planted when we got home. Put them under the window where the boys sit to watch the little wax eyes that sit there. That will really attract them they love drinking the nectar from these plants. Had just finished planting them came inside and there is a wax eye drinking the nectar with Shadow on the couch watching. That made my day. Awaiting a call back from a home based pet accessories place not far from here they have a litter that looks suitable but have to arrange contactless pickup by phone tried but couldn't get them today so fingers crossed can get them tomorrow. |
