Snow and Covid to start the year - NatsFan78 - 01-21-2022 Well this year is off to a less than ideal start. Monday, January 3, we got over a foot of snow and our power was out all week. My poor Jaxon was so cold, he slept under the covers with me. We were unable to get out for several days. A couple days later we got a bit more snow, this time with some ice. Thankfully we kept our power that time. Unfortunately that was just the beginning. My daughter’s sister-in-law works for a huge corporation. Her assistant manager came to work with Covid symptoms over a week and a half, lied on the screening questions they have to answer each day at the door, and told no one. She finally bought a rapid test and took it on her lunch break one day. It was positive. She still told no one and finished her shift that day. Her daughter called the next morning and ask if everyone in her department had been tested yet. She was curious if her mom was the only one to test positive. She had no idea her mom had not told anyone, she had reported her absence through the company absence reporting service but no one had alerted her department yet. Now, if she was not going to be paid and could not afford to miss work I could understand. My frustration with her is that the business will pay any employee that tests positive full pay for up to 30 days. It was stupid and completely unnecessary. She did follow the company rules about masks and actually wore gloves, she has been doing both since this mess started. She is fully vaccinated and has had her booster. She told a friend she thought because she was fully vaccinated and was always careful she couldn’t get it, she thought it was the flu. She panicked and was afraid she would be in trouble when she tested positive. My question is why would you come to work everyday thinking you have the flu? That’s stupid too, sorry. The company has sick time available to employees. She could have stayed home with full pay two weeks with the flu. My daughter’s sister-in-law tested positive a few days later, her younger sister a day after that. My daughter was around them with her family before anyone realized they had been exposed. I was with my daughter’s family the day after that. My daughter, son-in-law, and three grandsons (ages 2 months, 1 year, and 2 years old) all got sick and tested positive. I was next, then my son. My cousin is also now positive. My husband has diabetes and is on medication for high blood pressure. He is not vaccinated. Thankfully he is still negative and symptom free. Out of the adults that have tested positive, not counting the assistant manager, four of us are fully vaccinated including having the booster. The other three have not had any vaccinations. The babies had runny noses and laid around for two days. They did not seem to be bothered by it very much at all thankfully. As for the adults we have all have had the same symptoms; congestion, cough, body aches, fever, headache, loss of taste, loss of smell, and exhaustion. It has been about the same as far as severity too. Those of us who are vaccinated wear masks always, the unvaccinated near wear them. It really makes me question the vaccines and masks if we all have it, with the same symptoms and severity. My sweet Jaxon has been by my side all week, even more than usual. I think he knows I feel awful. Hopefully we will all start to feel better soon. I miss coffee, chocolate ice cream, and spaghetti so much ? It is really hard to eat when you can’t taste your food at all. On the bright side I have been eating things I hate the taste of but that are good for me so my nutrition is vastly improved for the moment. I hope all of you are healthy and well. RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 01-22-2022 Oh Michelle - I'm so dreadfully sorry to hear your news and the impact it's had on you and your family members... please keep us updated about how you're all doing... Bless your darling boy Jaxon for watching over you while you're sick - I had a serious illness as a teenager and Mum said she knew I was getting better when my cat finally left my side... My thoughts and prayers are with you all... Love Pam xox RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - admin - 01-22-2022 Sorry to hear about all of that. I hope that you're all better soon. I question the efficacy of masks as well but the vaccines seem to be serving their intended purpose with the emergence of Omicron. I am triple vaxxed and got Covid in December right after Christmas. It was a bad cold for a few days. I didn't have severe disease nor end up in the hospital which is about as good as we can expect with this very contagious strain. RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - Smudge's Mom - 01-22-2022 I have tried multiple times to respond to your post, but my anger overwhelms me and I just can't write sensibly. Just let me say that I am so very sorry for what you are going through because of selfish and thoughtless people. My son-in-law has something similar happening on his side of the family....one is dead, one in the hospital and others infected because they are anti-vaccinators. Brian and Judy have no in person connection with them. What a sad way for a family to interact in these trying times. I hope that all goes well for you and thank Bastet the Cat Goddess for Jaxon. RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - Ragstimes1 - 01-22-2022 That was so irresponsible for that person to continue working. There's a million articles out there giving your symptoms and she should have been bright enough to stay home. Thank goodness you have Jaxon to keep you warm and comfy. Makes you wonder when this will all be over. Sue RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - NatsFan78 - 01-22-2022 Thank you all. I’m feeling a little better this evening after sleeping most of the day. Jaxon stayed on the bed snuggled against my chest the entire time. What a blessing my sweet boy is! I am still angry. Everyone knows the symptoms so she should have suspected she might have Covid. I just can’t understand why she came to work so long knowing she was sick regardless of what was causing it. I’m so glad my grandsons didn’t get very sick. I am angry the assistant manager seems to think what she did was fine because she wore a mask and gloves. She does not seem to care in the least that she spread it. Almost everyone in that department ended up testing positive. They had to shut her entire department down for several days. I don’t understand being that selfish. RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 01-23-2022 I can understand your anger...especially given the fact that: the business will pay any employee that tests positive full pay for up to 30 days... I really am at a loss for words...how could one individual deliberately and recklessly endanger so many lives??? So relieved to know that your grandsons didn't get very sick and that you haven't been hospitalised... RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - NatsFan78 - 01-24-2022 She knows my grandsons were sick because of her stupidity. She still defended herself and said she believes she did nothing wrong. Her boss is having a meeting with her once she comes back. He said her behavior was selfish and unacceptable. I’m glad she will be talked to. I don’t want her to lose her job I just want her to understand how her stupid decision affected everyone else. It just blows my mind honestly. RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - HelenMac - 01-25-2022 Gosh I'm so sorry to read this. I can't understand the stupidity and selfeshness of some people. So sorry that you all got it but so glad you are all doing okay. Good on Jaxon for taking care of his mom. We have omnicron here now out in the community spread thru 2 weddings and flights around the country in last couple days. Before that was just at the border in MIQ. Only the start of it here. Praying I don't loose anymore family members or friends to this stink virus as lost my aunt year ago and 2 friends in the last couple of weeks all overseas.. Praying for all my friends on here too. Keep safe my friends. RE: Snow and Covid to start the year - NatsFan78 - 01-25-2022 Thank you. I hope this mess ends soon. It is heartbreaking how many people have been lost. The assistant manager was reprimanded and put on probation. She is angry and thinks she is the victim. I can’t understand how anyone can be that stupid. |
