Shadow not right - HelenMac - 04-24-2023 Having a few issues with Shadow again can't get into our vet till next week as he is away for school holidays and I refuse to see the locum but appointment is already booked for Wednesday and meanwhile I am watching him like a hawk. He is now drinking heaps and peeing big size boulders compared to Zimba and always hungry eating heaps way more than what used to eat and has also doing the odd poo outside the box so have added a extra litter box as he also now refuses to use the robot which was working until last night as I was using the bathroom so he couldn't get in and needed to go I heard him crying outside the door so left me a parcel by the front door. He still had access to the one in the enclosure so not sure why didn't use that. Its not runny just normal so not sure what's going on.. While my nurse was here yesterday we checked him for diabetes she has a diabetic dog so knows where to do the prick on the ear so we used my kit as its same as what they use on animals here. It was normal so not diabetes and last blood test no diabetes either in fact all the blood tests were fine but know can change in six months... He seems happy in himself still plays but does sleep more and I can just tell somethings not right as his coat looks unkempt too so lots of brushing being given and knots taken out.. Anyone know what else I should be doing? Is it okay to wait another week before we see vet.. He hasn't lost weight but still hasn't regained all the weight he lost when had his surgery has only put half back on. Please keep my baby in your prayers. RE: Shadow not right - Smudge's Mom - 04-25-2023 So sorry to hear you are having problems Shadow. My first thought when you talk about excessive drinking and urination is kidney disease and I worry about waiting another week to seek medical attention. Is there a specific reason that you won't see the locum? Please know that my thoughts are with you and Shadow. Hopefully, this will be easily resolved. Gina RE: Shadow not right - admin - 04-25-2023 Sorry to hear this Helen. I must echo Gina's concern about waiting another week. They can go downhill so quickly if something is really wrong. Best of luck to you both. RE: Shadow not right - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 04-25-2023 Helen - I'm so very sorry to hear about Shadow. Could you see the locum to get tests done and follow-up with your vet? I know from my dog having pancreatitis that things can go downhill very quickly. Please post updates? Sending all my love and (((hugs))) Pam & Fluffy xxx RE: Shadow not right - HelenMac - 04-25-2023 Thanks Ladies unfortunately I can't get into the other vet and the locum is for emergencies only and you have to drop them off and he see's them when has time you don't even get to talk to him. [Last time this happened I rang because Shadow had severe vomiting and diarrhea overnight so we had to drop him off 8am on way to taking me for surgery on my hand.. When locum went to get him out the cage Shadow growled and hissed and spat at him so he said he couldn't get near him and just left him in the cage never checked him over or treated him he was just left in the cage all day.. On way home from hospital at 5pm hubby called into the vet and was told there had been no more vomiting or diarrhea so he could take him home they even made hubby get him out the cage.. So needless to say not doing that again. I have managed to bring the appointment forward to Monday I know still 5 days away but not much else I can do. If he gets worse will take to emergency vet other side of town. I'm keeping a close eye on him weighing him every day and he's maintaining his weight so that's good. I did talk to the vet nurse and she told me what to look out for. He still only pees twice a day morning and night just like Zimba like clockwork these two its just his are big boulders compared to Zimba's.. and yes as soon as I hear scratching I'm up to check who it is. RE: Shadow not right - admin - 04-26-2023 Thinking good thoughts for you both. RE: Shadow not right - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 04-26-2023 Thanks for the update Helen. I totally get that you don't trust the locum with Shadow. Very glad you have the emergency vet on hand. My thoughts and prayers are with and your darling Shadow...
