Novel Toys for Cats - MUM_of_FLUFFY - 12-04-2023

I have learned as a cat mother that the best cat toys are not actually intended to be cat toys.

I was putting eye drops in last week and I accidentally dropped the lid on the floor. I swore, but Fluff was absolutely delighted. The lid is small and can be swotted a great distance by a lurking cat. I dropped it in the kitchen (I keep my eye drops in the fridge) and he batted it through the kitchen into the lounge room. Because the lid is unevenly weighted it spins in a manner that absolutely delighted Fluffy. It disappeared for a few days until I eventually found it behind the bathroom door and retrieved it for his Lordship.

I also purchased a novel toy for Christmas (which Santa Paws said we could play with today!). Big Grin
2 x oven mitts emblazoned with cats (naturally!) which I am using for rough play to protect my hands from scratches.
Fluffy is very good when we have rough, bitey, scratchy, play. He always stops when I say: OK - that's enough...
Also I obtained these amazing toys for the princely sum of $1.50 each.

Having a single cat has been a big responsibility, especially now we are in a smaller space. I have to devise enrichment activities for him and I also have to play a game I simply call: CAT. It involves me pretending to be another cat and chasing him around the house as another cat would.

So many people have said to me: Cats are easier and less work than dogs... I never heard such rot in my life. His Imperial Highness requires me to be on call 24/7 and constantly lets me know my attempts to meet his needs are merely:
Adequate - room for improvement...

A lot of people seem to feel the need to comment on how I spoil my cat. When they make these comments I simply say:

Would you rather I was pulling the wings off butterflies?  (NOTE: Fluff has declared these people Enemies of the State)

Thanks to all the other Cat Mothers here for everything that has been said and posted. Fluffy's life is infinitely richer because of you ladies in our 'Cat Mother's Group' and I am immensely grateful. Smile Heart

I can just picture Fluffy taking off with the lid. I might have to accidently drop mine on the floor once finished the course after cleaning it of course see if Zimba likes it. Its amazing how normal every day items are more fun than cat toys. I just bought Zimba 2 go cat mice last 2 available as they have been discontinued as its about the only toy he plays with he prefers that than the go cat feathers which is such a shame as its by far the most favourite toy of Zimba's especially with mum on the other end of the wand.. He also has one to bat around I throw it at him when I have finished playing with him.. Zimba's other favourite is a felt washer that goes under my husbands cymbals on the cymbal stand yes hubby is a drummer and kindly sacrificed one for Zimba.. Zimba bats that from one end of the house to the other. Also a little pillow I made for Tuppence in 1990 to bat around it was her favourite and then became Harley's favourite then Smudge's and now Zimba's. That pillow is 23 years old and still going strong. Not sure how many times that pillow has disapeared over the years then magically reappeared again. As for the heaps of cat toys I've purchased over the years they sit on the floor and or away in a box unused. At the moment struggling to get meowww toys here in New Zealand as the meowww banana is about the only other cat toy that Zimba loves. But its unavailable here so hope it comes back as his one finally bit the dust..

Hey Helen, let me know how it goes with the eye drop bottle lid?

Fluff has an ancient meowww blue cigar that he still loves. Fluff also had a feathered duck which makes a noise when movement activated. But it's magically disappeared into the catmosphere... It was his absolutely most favourite toy, and I have pulled furniture out to vacuum and still not found it.

I went to put the feliway top into the rubbish but missed the bin and it ended up on the floor and yep you guessed it Zimba shot after it. Been batting it round the kitchen.  Reminds me of when I went to put in a new insulin infusion set in was a new type I had never used before when I clicked on the two tabs to open the container the lid popped open and the whole thing shot straight out the container across the room  and Zimba went flying after it with  me calling no Zimba no freaking out that he was going to get stuck by the needle.  Needless to say decided to give those a miss.    Not sure what the issue is with the meowww toys but 2 days later and numerous stores later can't for the life of me get one.  He is such a catnip boy so now trying for  a Jackson Galaxy one.

Well seems they are all out of stock too. Ordered a meowww christmas stocking but unfortunately comes from Aussie so doubt very much will get before christmas considering my medical supplies have been sitting at Brisbane airport since the 1st of December and still not managed to get on a plane.
