  What is included in a breed is up to the breeders as a GROUP, not to individual breeders. That is the entire idea of the cat fancy and is the difference between cat fancy breeders and moggy breeders. Just think of the result for breeds if each breeder has a different definition. It would mean one could not get cats bred to the single vision from anyone else and that would negate the only reason to HAVE breeds -- to have greater reliability of how kittens will turn into cats. Just think if one was speaking of temperament instead of coat color. Would folks really want to find out their Ragdoll acted like a Bengal? Greater reliability of result would just go out the window.

  I had not thought of it like that. You are exactly right, it would be extremely disappointing to adopt a ragdoll only to discover it did not share the characteristics of the breed. I have found that very few breeders actually adhere to the breed standard in my area. I just saw a post on Facebook from Rockstar Ragdolls, which I thought was a big breeder, advertising mink ragdoll kittens for sale. I thought minks did not meet the breed standard.

  Thank you, that’s what I thought. I was surprised to see them advertised on the business page of what I believed was a reputable breeder. I find it very sad.

  One problem is that "many" want to breed Ragdolls and it is very hard to get breeding cats from the most successful breeders. Therefore, newbie breeders who have gotten started with unaccepted variants will start up other newbie breeders with these cats. A greater willingness by the better breeders to start and mentor others might help, but that can certainly be complicated too. The fact is that traditional colors and patterns have always been more popular and easy to place. Hopefully, that will help.

  I wanted to provide an update on Noble Rags. I have been messaging with the owner again. She no longer sells the minks and sepias. She breeds by the official ragdoll standard. Her Facebook page has a link to a pedigree for at least one of her breeding cats, there may be others farther down. I believe she is a good breeder and would feel confident getting a kitten from her. Talking to her it is clear she loves her cats and treats them very well. She has posted a bunch of videos showing her kittens. I did not want this thread to give an inaccurate description of her.
