From what I understand of Feline Corona, it is a very, very common virus that nearly all cats (breeder babies, backyard babies, pound kitties, etc.) are exposed to. In most cases the most it does is present as a common cold virus would in humans. In a few rare cases it actually mutates to the FIP form of the virus and is no longer just plain old Feline Corona.
I don't believe there is any way of predicting which cats are susceptible to mutating although I probably wouldn't want to adopt a full sibling (even from a different litter) of one I had lost to FIP.
