  Personalities perhaps are intended to be similar. Perhaps they are.
  
  Ragamuffins are a different, unaccepted in some major registries, breed. I doubt they want these cats registered with them any more than Ragdolls want them registered with us. ; ) The comment that IF one wants a sepia or solid kitten in some ways similar to a Ragdoll, then go with the Ragamuffin, where these variants are accepted and where breeders who breed them have not gone rogue against their breed. (The Ragamuffin breed standard calls for rounded doll faced Persian features. They took this step to try and distinguish themselves from Ragdolls and seek cat fancy recognition for the breed.)

  Thank you so much Jan. I do not know a lot about the origin of the breed. I would like to learn more about Ann and her breeding practices. I heard that her breeding practices were a bit erratic by the end.

  My recollection from some exchanges on the old forum is that Ann actually started her own registry in order to facilitate her sketchy breeding practices after she broke from the CFA or was it TICA?

  IRCA was just her attempt to control the breed and have her own method of registration. She was a thorn in the side of the cat fancy by pestering and threatening them asserting her rights to the breed. Naturally, the cat fancy is not interested in "breeds" that only one person will control. TICA did not exist then. Some of her early Ragdolls were registered in NCFA - National Cat Fanciers Association.

  The Daytons were the first independent breeders and they and some other very early breeders broke from Ann and sought recognition in the cat fancy. I would say that the cat fancy Ragdolls are more likely to have accurate pedigrees tracing to Josephine and the early Ragdolls. The cat fancy Ragdolls were bred to cat fancy breeding practices. Ann did her own thing. If she had money, she would have been considered eccentric. We owe her a lot, because she saw the key breed characteristics in the early cats -- wonderful disposition in large pointed cats with soft easy care coats. She was the first to breed with temperament being primary and cat fancy Ragdoll breeders have retained that.

  really I could grab a bunch from the street or all the free kitten add and sell them as Ragdolls and retire. Very sad how they are hurting the breed. Do this happen in other cat breeds, I wonder?

  I think it's rampant in every breed and species that's desirable. I've already been tossed out of Ragdoll Cat Lovers USA for pointing out this "breeder's" poor practices. Of course she doesn't speuter either so she's making even more money off the backs of the unknowing as well as perpetuating the backyard breeder cycle. It seems to be just fine with most of the Facebook groups too.
