I got my new kitten about 3 weeks ago now. I also have a 12 year old cat and live in a small apartment. I kept them separate for about 2 weeks and slowly let them have more and more time together. As I have seen good progress in them getting along, I am getting anxious about having a harmonious "family" in the future. When I got a 1.5 year old cat this same cat (about 8 at the time) IMMEDIATELY wanted to be friends. The two never had to be separated at all. They instantly wanted to be together. That cat died about 3 months ago (at the age of 5 to a heart condition) which is why I got this new kitten. I now keep the entire apartment open to both cats almost 24/7. The only time I really separate them is if I see my older cat getting frustrated. He tries to be dominant but tbh he's too nice lol. He get pretty hissy with the kitten almost every time she approaches him and will vocalize when he's really frustrated. Am I expecting too much too fast? Should I separate them longer? I don't exactly expect them to be best friends for at least a year but seeing how stressed out the older cat is getting makes me sad. I have intentionally been feeding him slightly less and encouraging him to play more. Both of which take some doing especially since he isn't huge on playing a lot anymore at his age. Recently he gained a significant amount more weight while I was on vacation. I came back to a very chubby boy. I also recently got a new kitten so there is a stressor for him going on as well. Maybe eventually having the kitten around will encourage him to play with her, but so far he doesn't want much to do with her. I'm wondering if anyone has some tips on how to help him lose weight that I haven't already tried. Not great photos - but a great deal of fun!!!   Going to find this lock down alot harder Posted by: HelenMac - 08-17-2021, 09:55 PM - Forum: General Chat - Replies (12) Well it seems the covid delta variant has managed to wing its way over to New Zealand which they have traced back to Sydney Australia .    Whole country has been thrown back  in to level 4 lockdown.  Going to find it really hard this time at least  the last one  I could get out and go for a walk with the boys but no longer.  Please pray with me that my appointment tomorrow at the hospital isn't cancelled have been waiting 9 months for it to see if I can get a motorised wheel chair so I can get back out and about in the village. Mind you not even allowed to visit neighbours now but at least could drive round see the gardens ect..  Mum is in the same village has her own villa and on her own so trying to get permission for her to be in our bubble.  Will miss my visits with my neighbour who would come and spend the afternoon with me when hubby went to play pool but all games afternoons ect are cancelled.   Have been stuck in my villa now for 9 months only outings are to hospital appointments rather over it.   I wanted to go to bed - but... New here but long time ragdoll lover. As a low-income person I never thought it would be possible for me to afford buying a ragdoll and still have some left for the all important vet visits, but I'm happy to say I rescued a ragdoll mix. She was in a litter that was abandoned. She's only about 12 weeks old but already is showing a lot of ragdoll personality characteristics. I'm so in love!! I'm slowly introducing her to my 12 year old cat and look forward to when they are best friends. My question is about her color. Remember she is likely a mix and not from a breeder so it is impossible to know her exact genetics. I can tell she's def a lynx point. Other than seal and flame, I have a hard time telling the difference between the other colors. Could anyone help me with identifying which color she is? My guess is blue. Am I right? [Mikomi](https://photos.app.goo.gl/gXB4VtpxS5nQ1i8e6) Btw I couldn't find where I could add a picture so I hope how I did it worked!   Today was a sad day Posted by: HelenMac - 08-04-2021, 01:43 AM - Forum: Ragdoll Cat Gallery - Replies (4) Today we said goodbye to the stroller  as I can no longer take the boys walking.    Since we arrived in the village 6 years ago I took the boys daily for a walk.  Unfortunately since December this has no longer been possible kept hoping things would change but have now been told it won't..    So we sold it to someone else to use for their furbaby.    I brought it out to get ready  for pickup and the excitement on Zimba's face broke my heart he was racing round trying to get in.. No more walks to see the rabbits and birds.     We have now put another bird feeder up and planted all the plants the birds like so now the boys can watch the birds from home in comfort either from the lounge or enclosure...  Hope this video works.
