Mine does that! But he waits until he's seen my eyes open and close again. Most mornings I wake up to soft purring next to my head on my pillow. Then we play the eye licking game until I get up. I took this the other day on my pillow:

Hope today's vet call and/or visit gives you some answers and direction.
Also wanted to say be grateful that he brings toys instead of the Late, Great Smudge's method of attention getting. Smudge slept with us and at about 4 AM each day he would want a hip massage. His way of letting know it was time was to climb on my chest, turn around, lift his tail and stick his butt in my nose.

I get the paw batting my face - I prefer with claws in but on occasion feel the claws. Then there is the meow of death. Now a days I am more afraid of that meow waking the dog lol

Thank you everyone. We are waiting for test results but thinking he might be allergic to chicken. I will update when we get home.

Based on what you posted I would be skeptical of that diagnosis. What were the findings that justify it? In any event, if he is allergic to chicken and does not have symptoms after some pumpkin, I would continue to feed foods with chicken (very common) and add in some pumpkin.

You will be hard pressed to find any food without chicken in it and I don't think any kitten foods at all. I know because my Tiki has Inflammatory Bowel Disease caused by a poultry allergy and has been on a prescription novel protein,(venison), diet for years now.
Jan is correct that it does seem hasty to jump to this diagnosis since it could be any number of other things. Also these things typically manifest over years not weeks. Tiki started having symptoms, ear infections, excessive shedding, and ultimately weight loss, diarrhea and vomiting but this culminated when he was 2 years old. It's definitely something that my vet is seeing more of due to the prevalence of chicken in pet food but I'd be looking for other answers from my vet before I'd jump to this conclusion. I'm assuming they're testing for common things like giardia? Have they ordered a PCR panel?

In the event that Jaxson is allergic to chicken and is willing to eat canned food, Fancy Feast Seafood Collection Classic Pate is poultry free.

I didn't know this! Thank you.
The 3rd ingredient is meat by-products so are you sure that's not chicken?

RE: Poop issues - admin - 11-25-2019

They define by-product as Poultry By-Product Meal on Purina's website. Sometimes the ingredients don't specify chicken but use words like meat broth, by-product, etc. so it's very difficult to be sure unless you buy prescription food. It is more expensive but this is because the manufacturer cleans the entire factory between runs of it and other foods in order to ensure there's no cross contamination.

RE: Poop issues - Smudge's Mom - 11-25-2019

I spoke with the people at Chewy.com and explained the problem.  I asked for products that contained no chicken.  They said that if it says meat or meat by-products that it means that it is not poultry.  However, they did could not guarantee that it was beef (could be pork, or who knows what...monkey, mouse????)  I have been using Chewy for quite a while.  They seem to know what they are talking about...can't swear that they are always correct, but they have helped me on many dietary problems over the years.
