  I have been thinking about different things I need for my boy when he comes home and I was thinking about where he will be fed. I am going to put his food and water in my kitchen or dining room. I was thinking about all the dirt my family carries in and I am concerned he will have dirt in his bowls. Now, I will be the first to admit I get completely carried away and absolutely overthink everything but I am not sure I want his bowls on the floor. I would not want to eat off the floor. I’m thinking of getting this little coffee table to set his bowls and fountain on. Is that crazy? Does anyone else use a table? It even has a drawer to store his food.

  There are bowls that are intended to be above the floor - mostly for tall dog breed so they do not have to stoop to eat. Hepper has a nom nom dish that is intended to keep dropped food off the floor, but probably gives the dishes some protection from the floor too.
  
  I would not worry about dirt getting into the dishes. You would be able to tell first in the water bowl, probably.

  I do use our dinning table for my boys but thats only because I'm disabled and can't get to the floor. We have a towel on their with a special cloth over the top and their weighing scales and food trays and cat grass... They know as long as their scales raised feeding trays and grass are on there they are allowed up. But if all removed they know its a no no as we are going to use it. They learn't very quickly. Boys jump up and eat of their raised bowls quite happily and lie on there in the sun.

  Thank you. Your boys are very smart! After much thought I have decided to get my boy a table and place it in the dining room.

  Keep in mind they are walking on the floors and cleaning their paws.

  That is a very good point. I still think I am going to order him a table even though it is not really necessary.

  Please remember, that given his druthers, your boy will be running all over the house catching and eating, spiders, ants, or anything else that is unlucky enough to wander in over the threshold. Also, at some point your baby may turn into a 19 pound behemoth. Make sure any table is sturdy enough and large enough to contain his dish and his massive butt.

  I've had cats here for almost 30 years and feeding them anywhere other than on a mat on the floor has never crossed my mind.  Their dishes/water do not get dirt in them.  My folks had Airedale dogs and fed them on the kitchen floor of the farmhouse and they never got dirt in their food.  If it works for you, that's fine.

  I like the table and I know several people who also have dogs who feed their cats on tables and counters. I think that they all learn to adapt to eat where you put their food.
  I feed mine on the floor but use a waterproof mat because the fountain does get condensation on the outside and I want to make sure to protect the hardwood so you may want to put something underneath the fountain.
