Good morning, looking for advice again. The breeder used World’s Best Cat Litter so I continued that when Jaxon came home. I hate it! It does nothing for the smell and leaves powder on his paws which he gets literally everywhere. I am looking for something that will help with the smell and that Jaxon will not track across the house.
Also wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for keeping him from stepping in his poop and pee. He gets so aggressive trying to cover it he usually ends up stepping in it somehow. After he goes, he turns around and smells it (both pee & poop) then turns back around to cover it. He repeats this process several times and by the time he comes out he usually has either poop or urine soaked litter stuck on his paws. He has to have his paws washed several times a day sometimes. -

I've tried most litters and this one from Walmart has served my purposes best.

It doesn't have any scent but controls odors well and tracks very little compared to others I've tried although I've yet to find one that doesn't track at all. I too really disliked the WB. Besides tracking a lot it had an unpleasant scent that I could smell on my cats.
Make any litter change slowly, introducing the new litter over a period of time mixed with the current one so that he doesn't reject it.
He should become less messy in the litter box as he grows up. Do make sure that he always has a clean box to use as some cats are very fussy and fastidious. -

Thank you! I hate how messy this litter is and he always smells like it, so gross. I scoop his box out at least twice a day and usually more. Hopefully he will be less messy as time goes on. -

I have no brand suggestions because the litter (Cat's Pride) my guys like is DUSTY beyond belief...no scent but it makes a mess. However, I can't emphasize the importance of the "One Box per cat plus one" rule enough. It can make such a difference. In Pooka's case I have a sectional, so technically, she has TWO couches. She is such a happy little girl. -

We have a second litter box but have never used it. I had been thinking about putting it in my bedroom. I will set it up for him tomorrow. I feel like each time he comes out of the litter box he brings half the litter with him. Thank you. -

Fluffy's breeder used and recommended crystal cat litter. I didn't change it because I wanted to keep his new environment as familiar as possible to comfort Fluffy. I've tried various brands of crystal litter, some are better than others.
At 2 years and 1 month Fluff is still very "enthusiastic" about his litter tray. I have come to accept it... -

Thank you. I have switched him over to Frisco Lavender Fields Scent Multi-Cat Clumping Cat Litter. He seems to like it much better and has not been stepping in his poop since I transitioned him. I like it much better too. It is easier to scoop, does a better job with the smell, clumps well, and is not nearly so messy. As long as Jax continues to approve I think I will stay with this one. He still gets carried away digging but not nearly as much as before. -

I thought I would update my litter adventures. The Frisco litter worked well but he was still making a mess when he came out. The litter was so fine it was sticking between his poor little toes. I decided to keep looking, I figured there had to be something better. I finally found the perfect setup for us!
I bought one of those Breeze litter boxes that uses pellets and has a pee pad in a tray that pulls out in the bottom. The pellets are ridiculously expensive and Jaxon was trying to eat them. We did not make it through the first day with that setup. I was too worried about him eating the pellets.
I did love the idea though so I decided to try a different type of pellets. I bought a 40 pound bag of pine pellets from Tractor Supply. It is actually supposed to be for horse bedding lol. I put that in his Breeze litter box. It is perfect!
Now we are using the Breeze litter box with the pine pellets. He has never tried to eat these. I scoop the poop out when he goes. The pee goes through to the tray in the bottom on the pee pad. The pellets that he pees on turn to sawdust and fall into the tray on the pad as well. Now all I have to do is scoop out the poop when he goes and change the pee pad every Saturday. I will dump the box and scrub it once a month. In between cleanings I will just add a few pellets as needed.
His feet are always nice and clean, the litter box has less smell now than at any point since he came home, and it is much easier to clean the pellets up compared to the litter. The litter box is in a bedroom with carpet. It is also the cheapest solution I have tried, the pine pellets were only $5.99 for a 40 pound bag.
