  Hi!
  
  I'm picking up a kitten in under two weeks from a breeder I've used previously. This breeder is sub-par at communication via e-mail and social media (I figure because she's on the older side), which worried me a lot when I picked up my first ragdoll 2 years ago. My worries were unfounded, and my Arlo ended up being the perfect cat.
  
  Anyway, I'm getting a second kitten from her in two weeks, and am minorly worried about this spot around his left nostril. I have three pictures of the kitten that were sent weeks/months apart. In the first two pictures, you can see a brown mark by his nostril. These picture also seems to have a lack of fur above his nose, but maybe that's just because he's really young? In the third, the spot is covered by the kitten's tongue - I feel like cats normally don't lick like that. Maybe she is applying some sort of medicinal cream to the spot and the cat is licking it off?
  
  I spoke with her on the phone last week, and she mentioned he has "some dirt on his nose that she can't get off." Which is weird to me, because how is it possible dirt could be there for months? She also said she was worried about him at first, because he was on the smaller side / not getting bigger, so she had to hand feed him. She said he's been to the vet and is perfectly healthy and has called him "stocky." 
  
  Anyway, I'm a bit worried that something isn't being disclosed. Can anyone identify what it is on his nostril? I've sent the breeder another e-mail to clarify, but she sometimes takes days to answer and the kitten is coming home soon.
  
  Apologies for the small pictures - I had to reduce the size to upload them, but it may be harder to see the brown mark I was talking about.

  Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad you've joined us!
  
  I unfortunately cannot offer any advice regarding the mark on your kitten's nose, but there are others here with much more experience who hopefully will be able to advise you. You have a very beautiful kitten all the same and I'm hoping it's nothing serious but something that can be treated easily.
  
  I have taken the liberty to enlarge the photos so that you can see the mark more clearly by uploading them via Flickr. (Most of us here use it for posting photos).

  Welcome to the forum! I hope your kitten is healthy or it is just a minor illness that is easily treated. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will have advice for you. Your kitten is beautiful!

  Tell the breeder the nose mark worries you some. Ask to speak to the vet about it -- and you can get a medical take about it from someone who has examined him. (You can also have your vet talk to her vet. Often that helps get the right questions asked and answered. As with all new pets, a vet visit within a day or so of pickup is best for everyone.) That seems an odd location for anything very serious. The licking looks like common behavior, by the way.

  I personally don't see anything that should cause you worry - he's soooo cute - but let your vet tell you for sure.  Do you have a contract with the breeder with certain health guarantees?  I'm assuming you will be taking him for a wellness visit with your own vet shortly after you bring him home.  That visit will let you know whether this is just a particular marking or something more.
