  Thin Cat

  • Ribs, lumbar vertebrae and pelvic bones easily visible
    
  • Thin neck and narrow waist
    
  • Obvious abdominal tuck
    
  • No fat in flank fold, folds often absent
    

  Underweight Cat

  • Backbone and ribs easily palpable
    
  • Minimal fat covering
    
  • Minimal waist when viewed from above
    
  • Slightly tucked abdomen
    

  Ideal Cat

  • Ribs palpable, but not visible
    
  • Slight waist observed behind ribs when viewed from above
    
  • Abdomen tucked up, flank fold present
    

  Overweight Cat

  • Slight increase in fat over ribs, but still easily palpable
    
  • Abdomen slightly rounded, flanks concave
    
  • Flank fold hang down with moderate amount of fat -- jiggle noted when walking
    

  Obese Cat

  • Ribs and backbone not easily palpable under a heavy fat covering
    
  • Abdomen rounded, waist barely visible to absent
    
  • Prominent flank folds which sway from side to side when walking

  One thing to keep in mind when considering a Ragdoll's body condition is that the breed is known for having a fat pad on the lower abdomen called the greater omentum which is often more prominent than in other breeds. This isn't an indication of being overweight.

  My cat (stray types) fall into ideal cat category I guess. Due to I let her out everyday, so it involves some kind of exercise and she know when the right time to come back. I think if I have a ragdoll one day, it will be indoor type cat for me. There are so many cases sometimes bad people will abduct cat, especially rare breed.

  Not to mention all of the other dangers outdoors. Indoor only.

  It is estimated that the life expectancy of indoor/outdoor cats is about half that of indoor only cats.

  And Ragdolls, in particular, seem to be seriously lacking is street smarts. They are too friendly and trusting. Your bad people would have no need to abduct a Raggie. He would willing go with his new "friend".
