Snow and Covid to start the year |

Well this year is off to a less than ideal start. Monday, January 3, we got over a foot of snow and our power was out all week. My poor Jaxon was so cold, he slept under the covers with me. We were unable to get out for several days. A couple days later we got a bit more snow, this time with some ice. Thankfully we kept our power that time.
Unfortunately that was just the beginning. My daughter’s sister-in-law works for a huge corporation. Her assistant manager came to work with Covid symptoms over a week and a half, lied on the screening questions they have to answer each day at the door, and told no one. She finally bought a rapid test and took it on her lunch break one day. It was positive. She still told no one and finished her shift that day. Her daughter called the next morning and ask if everyone in her department had been tested yet. She was curious if her mom was the only one to test positive. She had no idea her mom had not told anyone, she had reported her absence through the company absence reporting service but no one had alerted her department yet.
Now, if she was not going to be paid and could not afford to miss work I could understand. My frustration with her is that the business will pay any employee that tests positive full pay for up to 30 days. It was stupid and completely unnecessary. She did follow the company rules about masks and actually wore gloves, she has been doing both since this mess started. She is fully vaccinated and has had her booster. She told a friend she thought because she was fully vaccinated and was always careful she couldn’t get it, she thought it was the flu. She panicked and was afraid she would be in trouble when she tested positive. My question is why would you come to work everyday thinking you have the flu? That’s stupid too, sorry. The company has sick time available to employees. She could have stayed home with full pay two weeks with the flu.
My daughter’s sister-in-law tested positive a few days later, her younger sister a day after that. My daughter was around them with her family before anyone realized they had been exposed. I was with my daughter’s family the day after that. My daughter, son-in-law, and three grandsons (ages 2 months, 1 year, and 2 years old) all got sick and tested positive. I was next, then my son. My cousin is also now positive. My husband has diabetes and is on medication for high blood pressure. He is not vaccinated. Thankfully he is still negative and symptom free.
Out of the adults that have tested positive, not counting the assistant manager, four of us are fully vaccinated including having the booster. The other three have not had any vaccinations. The babies had runny noses and laid around for two days. They did not seem to be bothered by it very much at all thankfully. As for the adults we have all have had the same symptoms; congestion, cough, body aches, fever, headache, loss of taste, loss of smell, and exhaustion. It has been about the same as far as severity too. Those of us who are vaccinated wear masks always, the unvaccinated near wear them. It really makes me question the vaccines and masks if we all have it, with the same symptoms and severity.
My sweet Jaxon has been by my side all week, even more than usual. I think he knows I feel awful. Hopefully we will all start to feel better soon. I miss coffee, chocolate ice cream, and spaghetti so much ? It is really hard to eat when you can’t taste your food at all. On the bright side I have been eating things I hate the taste of but that are good for me so my nutrition is vastly improved for the moment. I hope all of you are healthy and well.

The SAD
As you know we lost our wonderful PookaPee in mid October. What I didn't tell you is that Judy (my daughter) lost our precious Fozzie Bear just 3 weeks later. It was not unexpected...he was a giant breed of nearly 15 years, but it was still heartbreaking. But then, on the morning before Thanksgiving, she lost Marty. He was walking to his breakfast and suddenly collapsed. They rushed him to the vet and it was determined that his foreleg was shattered. After much consultation with their regular doctor and two orthopedic specialist it was determined that Marty had undiagnosed bone cancer. Because of his size, age and arthritic problems, it was decided that amputation was not an option in that it would probably only give him an additional six months of absolute misery. He was helped to pass at that time.
The GLAD
On Christmas Eve, Judy and Brian adopted two precious tabby girls from one of the rescues that I have worked with for many years. They are 8 month old sisters that were born in the foster home so are wonderfully socialized. Their names are Tabitha and Mystic. Within 48 hours of arriving at Judy's and Brian's, they were not only right at home, they had pretty much taken over the home. And since the little ladies had been raised with dogs, Judy and Brian decided to go ahead and adopt an 8 month old Great Pyrenees/Bernese Mountain pup named Sierra. She had been raised with cats and had shown no aggressive tendencies whatsoever. They brought her home on New Years Day and started a very slow introduction today. So far all is going very well. Sierra seems pretty disinterested in the girls and Tabitha's attitude seems to say, " I was here first so deal with it." Mystic seems to feel that as long as food is plentiful, it doesn't matter who has come for dinner.
Anyway that is what has been going on around here. So here are a couple of pictures of my new grandkids.
PS. Sierra is already 85 pounds
